The state of Quintana Roo, has wonderful places to visit, no doubt, Bacalar is one of them.

This population founded on the shore of one of the most beautiful lagoons in the world, is located south of the entity, about 35 km from Chetumal, offers an infinite number of activities to perform and that is why it is part of the most visited sites in Quintana Roo.

Named in 2007 as "Magic Town", Bacalar is recognized for the beautiful 7 Color Lagoon, the great Blue Cenote, its natural wealth and its cultural beauty.

To get to Bacalar, you can access by federal highway 307, which is the same that connects with Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Felipe Carrillo Puerto. If you travel by bus, you have to arrive first to Chetumal and then take a transport to Bacalar, don’t worry, buses depart daily with different schedules. Otherwise, if you travel by plane, Bacalar is located about 20 minutes from the Chetumal International Airport, in this you can find collective transport and taxis that will take you to the “Magic Town”.

What to do in Bacalar?

Most of the tourist activities of this wonderful place, revolve around the 7 Colors Lagoon, in this you can go kayaking, ecological tours, boat tours, sport fishing and of course, swim in its calm blue waters.

You can also find a lot of restaurants to taste the typical food of the peninsula and due to the proximity to the border of Belize, you will find some dishes of its traditional menu.

The Fort of San Felipe, plays an important role in the cultural activities of the region, was built to defend the port from pirates who were looking for the valuable dye stick.

In the center of Bacalar, you can visit the Main Square, the House of Culture and the Church of San Joaquín.

Being a place rich in culture, you can find handmade crafts with materials from the region, such as dye stick, a wood used for dyeing, hammocks, carved figures, huipiles are stained with this material (traditional clothing of the region), among other crafts.

Being an entity with a warm and humid climate, the temperature is around 28 ° C, so it is recommended to wear fresh and light clothes, hat or cap to protect you from the sun, open footwear for the areas surrounding the lagoon and for the tours through the center of the Magic Town, closed footwear.
