But...What is Timeshare? well legally speaking, a timeshare is a way for multiple people to share ownership of a property, usually a vacation property, such as a condominium in a resort area. Typically, each buyer purchases a specific unit within a specific time period. Timeshares typically divide the property into time periods of one to two weeks. If the buyer wants a longer stay, there is the option to purchase multiple consecutive timeshares (if available).
Traditional timeshare properties typically have properties for sale during a specific week (or weeks). Buyers select the dates they want to spend there and purchase the right to use the property during those dates each year. For example, choosing a fixed date is particularly useful if you always want to spend birthdays or special holidays at the property.
Some timeshares also offer "flexible" or "floating" weeks. This agreement is less strict and allows the buyer to choose one or more weeks with no fixed dates but within a specific period (or season). Owners reserve the right to book a week at any time during the year; subject to availability.
Timeshares work well as a vacation option for many reasons. If you vacation at the same resort for one to two weeks every year, a timeshare can be a great way to own a property you love without the high cost of buying a home. Timeshares also provide you with the convenience of knowing exactly what you’re getting each year without the hassle of searching, booking, and renting accommodations or the worry that your favorite accommodations won’t be available. Your time also has financial value. Additionally, some timeshares offer perks and shared amenities, such as access to gyms and hot tubs. Some offer on-site storage so you can conveniently store equipment like surfboards or snowboards and avoid the hassle and expense of shipping them back and forth. The fact that you may not use your timeshare every year doesn't mean you can't enjoy owning it, Many owners enjoy periodically loaning out their weeks to friends or relatives. Some donate the timeshare weeks, as an auction item at a charity benefit, for example.
